North America’s largest ice dragon boat event is back, taking place in the Nation’s Capital! The Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival has proudly partnered with the International Ice Dragon Boat Federation Series, Canadian Heritage and NCC to present this popular Winterlude event on the Rideau Canal Skateway at Dow’s Lake.

Registration includes:

  • Equipment for all team members (boats, ice-sticks)
  • A practice session will be held on Friday, February 7th.
  • Two 200m races; top teams in each division will race in Championship Finals

Team Details:

  • Teams consist of 8-10 paddlers,
  • 1 steersperson,
  • 1 drummer and up to 4 spares (maximum of 16).
  • Participants must be at least 12 years of age as of January 31st of the given year.

Mixed Division:

  • Must race with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 5 paddlers of each gender (does not include steersperson/drummer)

Canada Day Paddle - July 1st
One of our annual traditions. Watch the Canada Day fireworks in the front-row seats, right on the water! Meet at the Dragon Boat Club docks at 8:00pm on Sunday, July 1st. We will warm up, load the boats & paddle past the Causeway Bridge, past the Wolfe Island Ferry docks to Confederation Basin. The Kingston Fireworks celebration starts at 10:00pm. Bring your friends, or family members - RSVP so we know how many are attending. Happy Birthday Canada!

Paddle to Kingston Mills - TBA
A paddle to the Kingston Mills Locks along the scenic Cataraqui River. Pack your picnic lunch and come out and enjoy a full day event.

Paddle the St. Lawrence - TBA
This day trip from Ivy Lea down the St. Lawrence River just past the 1000 Islands bridge takes us to a private island where we enjoy refreshments and a potluck themed lunch.  

Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival - TBA
Come out and watch the races! Yes, we race on the ICE and although it's cold, it's also great fun! The annual race on the Ottawa canal draws teams from all over the world. 2019 was the first year we participated along with 1,200 other teams and feel we placed well. Can't wait for next year!!!

Members Book your Events
Club members need to book their participation for social events. Weekly practices run from May to September, if you are unable to make a practice, please notify the coach or another regular crew member.
